It got a little better after they took the stupid Boxster nose off it.

But the 996 is easiest way to get into a 911.

I don't know, you can get a pretty good 75-89ish for $23,000 or less.

I'm starting to see 996s with less than 100,000 miles come in below $20,000. The 930 and 964 are cool, but man do I want a 993.

What would your ideal one be? There is an X51 Turbo on CL that needs engine work for $25,000. It is a convertible though.

It's an internal code for each generation.

930, 964, 993, 996, 997, and the latest is the 991.

That's like saying its your least favorite supermodel. They are a bargain right now, and offer quite a lot of performance for the money. Then again, I'm biased.

Most of the "issues" people complain about on the 996 are Internet lore and word of mouth from people that like to sound smarter than they are.

Thanks! It's a real XAA code car, and definitely a ton of fun. I've seen some stripper model 996s in good shape going for mid teens, which is amazing for what you're getting.

I still want one of these, even if they are the least popular.

A Carrera 4 6-speed.

Part of me really likes the C4S, especially the tail end, with the full-width red bar.

But I actually think I might prefer a very clean narrow-body 996 C4 coupe.

But if I can't find a coupe... I have a plan for a convertible... gut the folding top, and put a GTN Automotive targa variable hard top on it, in a more permanent fashion.

I also have some plans for some very smooth and clean body mods, and maybe even a re-paint in a throwback color, like Petrol Blue.
